The Universe has a way of bringing home a message in a clear and decisive fashion. Yeah, sure, intially the subtler approach throws its lasso in my direction but I never seem to get it. I'm a bit thick that way. I seem to be needing a bulldozer to catch my attention. :) And then I find myself being overwhelmed by 'signs', all speaking the same language, communicating the same, often simple, message. The last couple of days has been like that.
I'll save you the details for now, but will say the following: We claim us humans to be more intelligent than most other species. I'm inclined to disagree. :)
I've just got back from an interesting talk about e-numbers and additives. On the surface, quite a 'boring' and nondescript topic. In Europe, so called e-numbers are regulated by a European authority, and they control which additives are allowed to be used in factory produced foods.
Around 300 e-numbers are allowed to be used in human food, but only approx 150 in dog and cat food. The government official in charge was asked why that is and gave the following response, "dogs and cats cannot read the labels". Well, what do you say to that... :)
I'm no master chef. I'm not even overly interested in cooking, but after today, having listened to a very inspiring and informative talk (also referred to as the most recent 'hint' from the Universe) has convinced me to stop buying factory processed foods and start making my own.
We have been lead to think that there is nothing wrong with eating, for example, guacamole produced in a factory containing 1,7% avocado, instead of making our own. A home-made guacamole would probably contain around 90% avocado. Hhmm, 90% versus 1,7%....
So, what do they put in the finished product to give it the same taste and colour as the home-made version, if not avocado...? Somwhere between 10-20 extra ingredients, most with e-numbers. Did you know that you can colour bread 'dark' to give an impression of it being a 'healthier' option...? This made my jaw drop. I am probably naive, but this upset me big time.
In short, it is scary how we have let it go this far. I'm sure I'll come back to this topic, but for now I'm still somewhat in schock. But, what is good is that this is another piece to the jigzaw called life.
Thank you, Universe!
:)
