Avanoo was born with the goal of opening minds and connecting hearts. The site was a "global hometown" for a couple of years and is now being redeveloped because we think the world is finally ready to get it together.
Avanoo has also been called "a book that everyone can read and write" and "This American Life for the rest of us" (because everyone is invited to share their story here). The site has been compared with The WELL, owing to the deeper sense of community and higher level of discourse.
Posts are the fundamental building blocks on Avanoo. People make posts, which may be linked, grouped, and organized in an easy and fun way into places and things. Places and things create more of a world and may be "real" or imaginary.

The name Avanoo comes from the Finnish verb avattu (to open) and the Greek word noos (minds).
The Avanoo community encourages you to share your story, cares about what is beneath the surface, and sees us for who and what we are – human beings. Its supportive, nourishing nature makes this a very special space.
